Catering and Hospitality Careers at Barchester

Food and hospitality can make a huge difference to the lives of our patients and residents. We’re committed to providing them with quality, nutritious food that gives them plenty of choice and makes each day enjoyable.

For many of our residents and patients, good food and hospitality isn’t just about enjoyment. Mealtimes can actually play a part in their mental wellbeing as well as their physical health. They can help trigger happy memories, provide mental stimulation and make our environments truly feel like home.

We look for people who can make healthy food delicious, and mealtimes about conversing as well as eating. In our hospitals, you’ll also need to follow legislation about constant food and drink availability whilst taking care of our patients’ particular dietary needs.

An understanding of food and hospitality is important here, but you’ll bring something else to the table too – yourself. Our chefs and catering teams are all big personalities in our care homes and hospitals, and highly valued by our residents, patients, their families and our staff. We even invite residents and patients to be part of an interview panel for our chefs to make sure we get just the right fit.

There’s no limit to how far you can go in your career with Barchester:

Head Chef

Food is central to the delivery of high-quality care and support in our homes and hospitals and our Head Chefs create menus that provide mental stimulation as well as physical nourishment. You’ll draw on your culinary creativity to meet every need as well as leading your team and interacting with our residents or patients.

Second Chef

We pride ourselves on providing first-class food for our residents and patients which is why our 2nd Chefs are so central to the delivery of all-round care and support. You’ll help our Head Chef to create dishes that look and taste delicious, as well as covering for them in their absence.

Hospitality Host

Every Barchester care home should feel like home, and our Hospitality Hosts play a big part in that by engaging with our residents during mealtimes and events. If you’re a natural people person, this is a great opportunity to create an environment that’s as stimulating as it is welcoming.

Kitchen Assistant

Every person in every role is important to our aim of providing the highest quality care and that includes our Kitchen Assistants. You won’t just help to create delicious dishes, you’ll also get to know our residents or patients. It’s a great way to develop your hospitality and culinary skills.

Graham, Head Chef

“I have led the Catering Team for over 12 years and could not wish for a more helpful, loyal and reliable number of friends. We always try to help the residents whenever we can and all thoroughly look forward to coming to work each day. We also enjoy joining in various activities such as ‘Barchester’s Got Talent’, the Tea Dances that we hold and many other events. Our priority is always the residents and we look forward to helping with their needs.”

Jo, Head Chef

“With my team, I aim to deliver first rate dining every day of the week. All our food is cooked from fresh produce and is of high nutritional value. I love meeting regularly with our residents to ask them about their likes and dislikes and what they would like to see on the menu. There’s something special about being Chef at Barchester. It’s like cooking for one big happy family.”
