What you need

To begin your nursing career with Barchester, we need you to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). There are some differences in their requirements based on where you trained:

Nurses trained outside the European Economic Area (EEA)

All international nurses who wish to work as a Registered Nurse (RGN) in the UK, are required to apply with the NMC, to ensure you meet their required standards. You must also provide different types of evidence (including English language evidence), to demonstrate how those requirements are met, and to progress with your application.

Once the NMC is satisfied with the evidence provided for your application, you will be invited to sit the NMC Test of Competence, which consists of a Computer Based Test (CBT) and a practical Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Click here for more information.

The CBT can be carried out in your country of residence, whilst the OSCE has to be completed in the UK, with one of the authorised universities supplying the test.

Once you pass your OSCE, you will be able to complete your NMC registration and pay the required fee. They will complete a final evaluation of your application and, if successful, you will receive an NMC PIN number and officially become a Registered Nurse (RGN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)

To apply for jobs here at Barchester, you will be asked to provide evidence of your English language, CBT completion, and NMC application, to show you have reached OSCE stage and your qualification meets NMC requirements.

Nurses trained in the European Economic Area (EEA)

If you have trained and qualified as a nurse in the EEA, you will have to apply for recognition of your qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and potentially meet additional requirements, such as English language evidence. Click here for more information on this registration process.
