Opened in 2013, Lancaster Grange is a purpose-built care home, situated on the Fernwood Park Estate in Newark. It’s designed to provide the highest quality residential and nursing care for older people, including those who are living with a dementia.
Learning about our residents’ life stories and our reminiscence work is a key part of our person-centred care approach. This valuable work helps us to connect with our residents on a personal level and enhance the overall care that we offer to them. Our lively activities programme is a big part of this, with everything from knit and natter sessions, local day trips and visits from local musicians on offer.
As well as nurses providing 24-hour cover, the team includes managers and care staff specially trained in dementia care, activities coordinators, trained chefs, administrators and maintenance staff. As well as 24-hour nursing care, we also offer residential care for frail older people who need additional support, and short-term respite care.
We’re very proud of our dedicated Memory Lane Community, which provides specialist resources for people living with dementia in a homely yet secure environment. This includes colour and cues to help residents navigate through the home as well as thoughtful interior design to help with reminiscence.
Within our community, memory boxes are also used to help each person reminisce. Features such as adapted crockery and tableware, sensory gardens with low-risk walkways and activity kitchens also enable people to engage in life’s everyday simple tasks and pleasures.
