Barchester Carer Wins Award and Holiday on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway

Care Assistant Denise Haswell, from Barchester’s Hawthorns Care Centre in Peterlee, was surprised live on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway when she won the Tik Tok Happiest Minute Hero Award.  Denise’s prize is a fabulous all-inclusive holiday to a destination of her choice.

Denise, who works on the rehab unit at Hawthorns, was nominated by one of the residents, Amy Pohl, who is something of a Tik Tok sensation herself! Amy moved into the Hawthorns during the pandemic and the pair formed a special bond with Denise helping Amy with her videos.  Amy calls Denise ‘Bob’ and says she is like a second mother to her – the pair have great fun creating videos together for Amy’s growing Tik Tok following.

General Manager, Denise Findley, says: “Denise is an absolute superstar with a heart of gold, I am delighted she has won this fantastic prize and I promise to approve her holiday request!”

Now that she has recovered from the initial shock, Denise Haswell comments: “I have never been so surprised in my life, I couldn’t believe it was me on the TV screen!  Amy is such a special girl, we have so much fun together – I’m so touched that she nominated me.”

Nominating Denise, or ‘Bob’, Amy Pohl says: “My carer is my Happiest Minute Hero. I REALLY look forward to her shifts. She helps me be as independent as possible. When I’m struggling, she’s always there. She’s always making me laugh. She’s a great listener. During such a difficult year she’s made every day so much more bearable. Best friends. She truly cares.”
