Care Home General Manager Wins Knight Frank Healthcare Hero Award

June Hoggart, General Manager of Barchester Healthcare’s Briardene Care Home in Billingham, Durham has been awarded a Knight Frank Healthcare Hero Award after being nominated by Pete Calveley, CEO of Barchester Healthcare.

June has worked for Barchester for almost 30 years, she joined as Care Assistant in 1991 and has risen through the ranks.  She was made General Manager in May 2008.  Briardene is rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission who regulate care homes.

Pete Calveley commented: “June is extremely well respected by her team due to the fantastic leadership skills that she continually displays.  In 2017, her team were presented with the ‘Team of the Year’ award at the Barchester Care Awards and they have won many other awards over the years.  She is a brilliant General Manager who leads a fantastic team and we are extremely proud of her.

“June deserves this recognition and is an outstanding example of the compassionate staff we have at Barchester Healthcare,” he added.

Global property adviser Knight Frank launched the first ever Healthcare Heroes Awards this year to recognise outstanding people within the social care sector.  Nominations focused on individuals who had shown tremendous leadership, empathy and compassion throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as well as leading efforts around infection control and commitment to creative thinking to ensure social care residents and customers felt safe and secure throughout these unprecedented times.

Julian Evans, Head of Healthcare at Knight Frank, commented: “We are thrilled to acknowledge the amazing people that work within the social care sector, this year more than ever. Care providers have managed the COVID-19 pandemic brilliantly, particularly given challenges including lack of testing and PPE, and we received many nominations on behalf of some truly outstanding people working within the sector.

“Our Healthcare Heroes Awards showcase those inspirational individuals who have been undertaking exemplary work in the most difficult of circumstances and have recognised some richly deserved winners like June.”

On receiving the award, June said: “I am totally amazed and overwhelmed!  I absolutely love my job and it is wonderful to be recognised for doing something I enjoy so much and so passionate about.  I love working for Barchester, the company is so supportive and empowering – they allow me to give the best of myself.  I strive to do my best every day both for our wonderful residents and our super-star staff, it is the most rewarding job in the world.”
