Brave, Mel Shields from Rackheath in Norwich, completed a birthday skydive today in aid of Barchester’s Ashfields care home.
Mel decided to celebrate his 81st birthday by tackling a skydive to raise funds for the residents of Ashfields care home. The cause is very close to Mel’s heart and felt inspired by his wife Virginia. Ashfields care home provides specialist dementia care in its Memory Lane community.
Ashfields General Manager, Wendell Damasco, commented: “We are so grateful to Mel for raising awareness of dementia and for raising funds for the home, it is so generous of him, not to mention extremely brave! We are in awe of him jumping out of a plane on his 81st birthday!”
Mel said: “That was so much fun, it was so exhilarating! I want to do it again! Seriously though, it is a really important cause and I want to do all I can to raise money to help people living with dementia to lead happy and fulfilled lives for as long as possible. Ashfields is a wonderful care home and I know the funds will be put to very good use.
