Simply the Best! Barchester Nurse Scoops Coveted Wales Care Award

Lynda Hamilton-Shaw from Barchester’s Awel-Y-Mor care home in Gorseinon, Swansea has beaten all the competition to be crowned ‘Independent Sector Nurse of the Year’ in the Wales Care Awards 2022.

The Wales Care Awards are a celebration of excellence across the Wales care sector.  The purpose of the awards is to congratulate those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field.

Hundreds of nominations were received from homes and hospitals across Wales. All entries were a very high standard and Lynda Hamilton-Shaw is over the moon to have been named the national winner, beating hundreds of other nominees to the coveted title.

Nurse of the Year and General Manager of Awel-Y-Mor care home, Lynda Hamilton-Shaw, said: “It is so wonderful to be recognised for doing the job that I love, but this is really a team award for everyone who works at Awel-Y-Mor – we are a family and we all support each other.  I am so lucky to work with such brilliant people and to have such lovely residents.”

Lynda’s win was announced at a special national award ceremony which took place on October 21 at City Hall, Cardiff to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Wales’ many exemplary carers who work tirelessly to deliver the best care to their residents and patients every day.

Managing Director for Barchester Healthcare’s Central Division, Angela Bradford, said: “I am so delighted for Lynda and her team, Lynda is an exceptional leader and a wonderful nurse, she is so hard-working and dedicated.  She leads by example and is so supportive of her team.  We are very lucky to have her and I am so happy to see her being recognised for the superstar she is!”

Dr Pete Calveley, CEO of Barchester Healthcare, added: “I am so proud of Lynda and everyone who works at our Awel-Y-Mor home.  Lynda leads a fantastic team there delivering top quality care to our residents and they thoroughly deserve this win.  Well done Lynda and Awel-Y-Mor!”
